Hi! My name is Joe. But I don't work in a button factory. Sorry.

This blog is operated by Joe Kuffner, owner of Kuffner Creative - a boutique digital marketing consultancy (yes, you can hire me!) - and formerly Associate Director for News and Content Strategy at the University of Portland.

I started this blog in 2013 because nearly all social media writing for page managers is geared toward businesses and brands, not toward schools and non-profits. My hope is that this site can spark ideas and inspiration while also providing some useful examples of best social media practices in the realm of higher ed.

Also, and I don't think I'm being too terribly snobby here, most writing about social media sucks. I mean really, really sucks. We're talking industrial strength Hoover sucking. For the most part, it's SEO-optimized click bait trash regurgitated by an About.com cyborg, and/or the most annoyingly useless listicles one could possibly imagine. So I figured maybe, just maybe, I could contribute something more useful. The jury's still out on that.

Feel free to connect with me on Twitter and LinkedIn, or you can always send me an email. (Yes, I still use Hotmail, and I have stopped being embarrassed about it. I've had it since I was in high school, and I'm too old to change.)

Thanks for stopping by!
